TERM ONE 2025
Very small group classes for kids to build relationship and learn to train their own family dog. There are no expectations or requirements for the dog's current level of training - your dog does NOT have to be fully trained to participate! Just safe with kids and other dogs. Lots of coach assistance given to each team, as we are in a small group. If you have questions, please reach out to discuss.
Kids: You will need one child per dog (i.e. we need one consistent handler throughout) and an adult to support each kids team. Each session we build on the last with the ultimate goal of the child "taking the lead" (literally & figuratively) by the end. This is a fun bonding and learning activity for the team of adult, child and dog.
Teens: Capable teenagers can do the course independently without an adult if they prefer. We focus on home obedience, tricks and agility, working with each dog and teen wherever they are at.
This is a "hybrid" class, meaning in person classes are fortnightly, with the alternating weeks being a Zoom class at home. This gives us the best of both worlds - parents minimise driving time, and kids and dogs maximise their learning time as they get to experience both the distractions and excitement of in-person classes as well as coaching sessions in their familiar home environment. PupStars families are loving this format and it gets great results!
Dogs learn: Foundation skills for a happy and cooperative dog, with a focus on life skills, fun tricks and activities for kids and dogs to be safe and have fun together.
Kids, you will learn: How to "speak dog" and have fun in ways both you AND your dog will enjoy. How to manage your dog safely and confidently, how to earn your dog's trust and respect, how to train fun and useful tricks, and much more.
Parents, you will learn: how to help your child and dog be safe and happy. How to develop appropriate rules for your household, and set your dog and your family up for success. How to support and encourage your child as they build confidence, empathy, and practical skills through dog training.
PLEASE NOTE: If your dog is reactive, aggressive, has challenging behavioural issues, or is very large (in comparison to your child) then they are probably not suitable for this programme. However, our Basic Manners classes may be a good fit and we offer private sessions - please just ask.
$220 per parent/child/dog team for 7 one-hour sessions
Week 1, 3, 5 & 7 are in person, held in Katikati
Week 2, 4 & 6 are via Zoom, in your own home.
