Calling all Junior Animal Trainers!
A special free video series for animal-loving kids and teenagers
Hey everyone! My name is Bex and I am a professional animal trainer.
I train horses and dogs and basically any type of animal I can get my hands on.
I train horses and dogs and basically any type of animal I can get my hands on.
We're all spending a bit more time at home than maybe we normally do, which means... more time to hang out with our pets! I have asked some of my friends and students to help me put together these videos so you can learn how to teach cool tricks to your own animals. Whether your have a cat, a dog, a bird, a bunny, a goat or a pony (or all of the above or something else entirely!), there's something here for everyone. |

1: Who am I, and what is Your Pet's Got Talent?
2: How to train your animal - in a nutshell!
3: Clicker training - what's it all about and why is it useful?
Emilyn and her pet chicken explain what clicker training is all about, how it works, and why it's so useful for helping our animals to learn faster and have fun! Watch to the very end to see the bloopers... (never work with kids and animals...??)
4. Teach your pet to spin in circles!
This is a great one for pets of ALL sizes - four legs, two legs or... no legs? (I am sure you could teach a fish or a snake to spin... I've never tried!)
5. Targeting
Targeting is an important foundation behaviour and fun and easy to teach to literally any species of animal. Use it to build other new tricks, as a way to get your pet to come to you, and to move them to a particular place without picking them up or handling their body.
6. High five, wave or shake hands!
Emilyn and her cat Asha are here to teach you how to get your pet shaking hands (paws, claws or hoofs) with you! This is the same process for training a high five or waving hello. Your pet will love being able to greet visitors!
7. Recall!
In this video Tessa talks us through how to train a recall, and why it's so important for safety, and just to make life easier! Because who doesn't want their pets to coming running (or flying!) when they call?!
8. Jump!
Brianna walks us through important tips for teaching your animal to jump confidently and safely
9. Teach your pet to dance!
In this episode, Paige shows us how she taught her dog Molly to 'dance'. This can easily be turned into a "sit pretty" or "beg" as well. Cats, dogs and bunnies are especially well suited to this cute trick!
10. Roll over
Emilyn and her animals teach us how to train our pets to roll over - this is a fun one for any of your smaller animals (larger ones can still lay down, even if they don't do the whole roll over!)
